Marvel superhero games
This second entry into the Disney Infinity series focused on Marvel characters. This was around the time when the first Avengers film wrapped up and Guardians of the Galaxy was in theaters. There were so many characters to choose from and it was fun for the whole family. Nowadays, tracking the game and figures down may be tricky, however, the search is worth it for just the toys. It's been something of a controversial title with promises being broken and updates frustrating fans.
However, the single-player content is still worth a look especially as the game is now available on Xbox Game Pass. Lego Marvel Super Heroes is the ultimate Marvel game for the whole family, assuming a person doesn't mind seeing a bunch of blocks explode.
The game's biggest selling point is that it comes with a huge roster of heroes and villains who are playable. This title is a love letter to the Marvel universe through and through. The sequel followed in but it's the first game that's considered the better of the two. While that game focuses on fantasy aspects, South Park:. The Fractured But Whole is a pure superhero parody.
Of the two, the first game tends to be regarded as the better game, although not by much. The Fractured But Whole is still a good superhero RPG with jokes and references aplenty that most fans will get a kick out of.
This is a different take on the superhero genre but the Crackdown series overall fits. The whole premise is on playing as a super-powered cop, breaking down gang territories with extreme force. Sunset Overdrive is also a different take on the superhero genre, this time looking at a zombie apocalypse.
That said, it has a lot of what one would love from Insomniac's Spider-Man games, including bright visuals, humor, and, best of all, crazy gadgets and powers.
Sunset Overdrive is an underrated gem for this console for sure. Anthem was another take on the Destiny style of gaming. That, along with the number of different four character party combinations, give this great game a large replay value. The big improvement in this game was that players chose three characters to use throughout the battles, as opposed to the two that players chose in the past.
The "Marvel vs. Capcom" series is not only a great superhero game, it is also an amazing fighting game. It has tons of different characters all with different powers and abilities. Instead of generic characters or characters that are clearly rip offs of more famous heroes and villains, here you play with the real deal. Cyclops, Hulk, Storm and Venom are all playable, among other characters.
The 2. Well, Capcom characters make up half of the game. The beat-em-up gameplay might be too simple for some, but what makes this game great is the art design and the story. The game introduces Sin Tzu, a new villain created by Jim Lee. Other villains appear, but nowhere near the number that show up in the Arkham series. Obviously the game has to expand upon certain events and tailor them for compelling gameplay, but no new major plot points or characters are added into the game.
This style blends well with the story and helps keep the game from being too tonally different from the film it is adapted from. This would be the only game based on "The Dark Knight Trilogy," which is a shame.
The thing that makes all the games in the Lego series so great is that the player can chose to breeze through the game or devote hours to making sure they do absolutely everything there is do. The lighthearted tone is uncharacteristic of a Batman game, but a welcome change in pace. Two sequels would follow and add more characters and features, but this is the only installment for the PS2. The game has Superman dealing with some of his best villains, including Darkseid, Parasite, Metal, Livewire and, of course, Lex Luthor.
Based on the Cartoon Network series version of the Titans, "Teen Titans" is surprisingly similar in tone to the series. Just as the cartoon had a wacky and often self aware vibe to it, the game has the five Titans transported inside of a game that they were sent that features them. The gameplay is nothing groundbreaking or even really anything to write home about. Much like its title character, the game is dark, gritty, violent, and definitely not for kids.
